May 3 Work Party A Success - AGAIN!
We had nearly 30 helpers continue the planting and weed removal. Thanks to all who helped!
WORK PARTY -- MAY 3.
Join us for our second official workparty! Work starts at 8am. (Come earlier for hot drinks and breakfast goodies.) At noon, we're going to fire up the barbecue and toast to the good health of Wilson Creek with burgers and hotdogs! (Or if you prefer, bring something else to throw on the grill.)
Dress in layers, wear water-proof boots. Bring sturdy garden gloves, clippers, a shovel if you have one. We've got LOTS of trees to plant, plus there are still blackberries to remove in the saltmarsh (we got most of them last month, though!) And we're going to start planting natives into the salt marsh. Weather should be fine. We might have a light, intermittent shower. (Also known as perfect planting weather.
By the way, there are a few tools that were left behind in March, so be sure and claim what is yours. See you Saturday!

The work party on March 22 was a SMASHING SUCCESS, with at least 57 (!!) volunteers arriving to help! We say "at least 57" because we know there were a few who never got around to signing in.
A heartfelt THANK YOU to all those who helped. It was a great day!!

Salmon Days
This year Wilson Creek was one of four South Kitsap streams featured on the Salmon Days Tour. More than 80 people came through on tours conducted by Paul Dorn, Fish Biologist from the Suquamish Tribe. He was fascinating.
It rained, of course, which Paul pointed out was perfect Salmon weather. We were happy to have a few Salmon performing (jumping) near the mouth of the creek during his talks. Paul thought they were likely Coho.

Our Open House
A big thank you to all of you who attended the open house on October 23. The turnout (more than fifty friends and neighbors of Wilson Creek) is proof of how much this neighborhood cares about our natural resources.
Jim Brennan from the UW Sea Grant (and one of the busiest people I have met) gave up his evening to be our guest speaker and teach us about the inter-connectedness of our water and land.
Kathy Peters from Kitsap Department of Natural Resources, Art Castle from Kitsap Homebuilder’s Association, Arno Bergstrom and Peg Tillery from WSU Extension services, Jayna Ericson from Kitsap SSWM (Surface and Stormwater Management), Dana Coggon, Kitsap Weed Coordinator and Sandy Jacobson from the Conservation District all came to lend their support and their expertise to the project.
And a very special thanks to our State Representative, Larry Seaquest, for attending and for caring not only about the "big picture" but also neighborhood projects such as ours.
